Propósito del Programa

Promover el intercambio cultural permitiendo a los estudiantes de carreras terciarias y/o universitarias viajar a los Estados Unidos para conocer su gente, sus costumbres, perfeccionar el idioma inglés y trabajar temporalmente durante las vacaciones de verano.

Requisitos Generales

  • Este programa es únicamente para estudiantesde tiempo completo que estén matriculados en universidades o institutos terciarioscon el objeto de obtener un título en una institución educacional acreditada.
  • El tiempo de participación no debe exceder los cuatro meses.
  • Los solicitantes deben regresar antes del inicio de clases en Argentina.
  • Los solicitantes deben demostrar que retomarán sus actividades como estudiantes después de su participación en el Programa Summer Work & Travel siempre que no se encuentren en el ultimo año de su carrera.
  • Los estudiantes deberán demostrar su progreso académico para poder participar.
  • Los estudiantes deberán contar con un nivel de inglés que les permita desenvolverse en su trabajo.

NOTA: Estudiantes cursando en escuelas vocacionales no son elegibles para este programa.

Definición de “Estudiante”

Para el propósito del Programa Summer Work & Travel, un estudiante se define como:

Un estudiante que haya terminado la educación secundaria, esté estudiando regularmente o esté matriculado en una carrera universitaria, terciaria en una institución de educación acreditada. El método de estudio deberá ser presencial y no virtual. Estudiantes en el CBC Ciclo básico común, también califican como estudiantes regulares.

Algunos de los Documentos Requeridos

  • Pasaporte válido deberá cubrir al menos el período del programa.
  • Página de confirmación del Formulario DS-160
  • Formulario preparado por la organización patrocinadora designada en los EEUU. (DS-2019)
  • Comprobante del pago del arancel SEVIS
  • Certificado de alumno regular, con no más de 30 días al día de la entrevista y carta de la Universidad (será proporcionada por la agencia local o sponsor local)
  • Certificado analítico de la Universidad (emitido y sellado por la institución)
  • Documentación que certifique su situación socio-económica en Argentina.

¿Qué significan las fechas de comienzo y finalización en mi DS-2019?

Las fechas de comienzo y finalización indican cuando debes empezar a trabajar y cuando debes terminar. Puedes empezar a trabajar desde el inicio del programa o después de las fecha de comienzo del mismo, pero debes dejar el trabajo para la fecha de finalización. Si trabajas más allá de la fecha de término, no podrás participar del programa en los años venideros.

¿Cuánto tiempo antes de la fecha de comienzo del programa puedo entrar a los Estados Unidos?

Puedes entrar a los Estados Unidos hasta 30 días antes del comienzo de tu programa. Pero no puedes empezar a trabajar antes de la fecha de comienzo del mismo. Por favor recuerda que la participación en el programa no puede impedir que asistas a clases o que tomes los exámenes previamente acordados. Si pierdes clases debido a tu participación en el programa, estarás seriamente poniendo en peligro tus opciones de participar en el programa en el futuro.

¿Cuánto tiempo después de la fecha de término me puedo quedar en los Estados Unidos?

Este programa contempla una vuelta a tu país de residencia como fecha tope, el 1 de Abril. Otros programas bajo visas J1, tienen otras fechas y tiempos de regreso. El Programa SW&T en Argentina tiene esta fecha como referente para futuras postulaciones. Quien se quede en los Estados Unidos más allá de esta fecha, se expone a que futuras visas sean rechazadas. Si abandonas los Estados Unidos durante el periodo del programa, no se permite que vuelvas con tu visa J1 aunque esté válida, porque ya no serás un participante del programa. Por favor ten presente que es tu responsabilidad volver a casa a tiempo para el comienzo de tus clases, sin importar la fecha en que termine el programa.

¿Puedo cambiar de trabajo mientras estoy en los Estados Unidos?

Por favor consulta y contacta a tu agencia patrocinadora antes de hacer cualquier cambio en su trabajo. Si cambias de trabajo sin la autorización de tu agencia patrocinadora, tu estado de participante del programa puede ser cancelado. Si tu programa es cancelado, debes salir de los Estados Unidos inmediatamente.

¿Puedo tener más de un trabajo en los Estados Unidos?

Las regulaciones del programa de intercambio no contemplan esta situación específicamente. Sin embargo, debes consultar con su patrocinador antes de aceptar un trabajo adicional.

¿Qué sucede si tengo un reclamo sobre la agencia patrocinadora o mi empleador en los Estados Unidos?

Puedes registrar tus reclamos con el Departamento de Estado enviando un correo electrónico a jvisas@state.gov y ante cualquier emergencia existe una línea específica a la que puedes contactar. Podrás ver la información en esta página.

La organización patrocinadora en los Estados Unidos es la principal responsable de tu programa. Si tenes un reclamo sobre tu empleador, debes contactar a tu patrocinador antes que nada, para solicitar asistencia. La información de contacto de tu patrocinador la encontrarás en el recuadro # 2 del formulario DS 2019.

Esta categoría de Visa fue diseñada para solicitantes que planean participar en programas aprobados por el Departamento de Estado para enseñar, estudiar, investigar, demostrar habilidades especiales, recibir entrenamiento, o para participar en un programa para recibir educación médica para graduados.

Esta categoria también incluye programas aprobados por el Departamento de Estado paraemplear personas en empresas, instituciones u otras agencias y para pasantías que ofrezcan entrenamiento especializado en un área por períodos que no excedan los 18 meses.

También podrá admitirse la participaciónen programas para aprendizaje del idioma y seminarios, talleres o cursos cortos relacionados directamente con las pasantías. Asimisimo, esta categoría habilita a los visitantes a viajar por observaciones ligadas a las pasantías, entrenamiento en técnicas y metodologías de una determinada área, contacto de colegas y a la promoción de intercambios culturales entre trabajadores, profesionales, investigadores y estudiantes, siempre y cuando estos viajes respondan al interés general del intercambio internacional. Esto podría incluir consejeros de campamento, trabajos de temporada como aquellos desarrollados en centros de deportes invernales o en campamentos de verano, o como Au Pairs.

Antes de aplicar a la visa, el interesado debe haber sido aceptado en un programa autorizado. Esto se prueba mediante la obtención del formulario DS-2019, enviado directamente al solicitante por parte del patrocinador del programa. Además el estudiante debe estar registrado en el Sistema de Información para Estudiantes y Beneficiarios de Programas de Intercambio (SEVIS).Su escuela o programa debe registrarlo enSEVISy el estudiante debe abonar esta inscripción.

Una vez que ha sido aceptado, el solicitante deberá seguir los pasos del proceso regular de solicitud de visa y contar con la documentación para poder solicitar el visado correspondiente.

Reglas de residencia

Muchos programas bajo la categoría J son subvencionados en parte o en su totalidad por reparticiones gubernamentales.Si este es el caso, o si los solicitantes fueran a recibir capacitación o educación de grado sobre medicina, independientemente de donde provengan las finanzas, una condición para aceptar una visa J es la prohibición a sus beneficiarios de solicitar una visa de inmigrante osolicitar ciertas visas de trabajo (visas H o L) hasta que los solicitantes hayan residido y estado físicamente presentes en su país de nacionalidad o última residencia durante por lo menos dos años.Esta condición puede también aplicarse si el área de estudio o investigación está incluida en unalista de especialidades aprobada por el Departamento de Estado y el gobierno del solicitante.Antes de aceptar una visa J, es necesario preguntar si esta condición se aplica. Es posible que existan requerimientos adicionales para personas que quieran participar en programas de medicina. Si planean viajar a los Estados Unidos con una visa J1 bajo un programa patrocinado por el Gobierno de los Estados Unidos y el número de programa en su DS-2019 comienza con G-1, G-2, G-3, o G-7, deberán realizar un procedimiento diferente al de una visa regular, ya que no deben abonar el arancel de SEVIS como tampoco el arancel de visado.

  • Una vez que obtengan el DS-2019 y verifiquen que el número de programa comienza con G-1, G-2, G-3, o G-7, deberán completar el formulario electrónico de solicitud de visa DS-160 e imprimir la hoja de confirmación que contiene el código de barras.
  • Realizado el primer paso, deberán presentarse en el Consulado en Avenida Colombia 4300, ventanilla 1, de lunes a viernes de 9 a 11 hs (excepto feriados argentinos, estadounidenses y días administrativos). Este tipo de programas patrocinados por el Departamento de Estados, NO requiere el registro en el Sistema del Servicio de Información de visas, como tampoco abonar los aranceles de visa y registro SEVIS.

Solo debe presentarse con su pasaporte vigente, hoja de confirmación del DS-160, DS-2019 y foto 5×5 cm de frente con fondo blanco.

  • Si la visa es aprobada,el funcionario consular indicará la forma de retirar el pasaporte visado.
